Tytuł: Anatomy of the left atrial appendage neck
Abstrakt:
The left atrial appendage is a structure, which in patients with an increased risk of thromboembolism and contraindications to the use of anticoagulants is often subjected to procedures aimed at excluding it from the bloodstream. These treatments are carried out in the initial part of the appendage, called the neck of the left atrial appendage. So far, there has been a lack of anatomical studies devoted to a detailed analysis of this structure. The aim of this doctoral dissertation was to describe the structure of the left atrial appendage neck. 250 autopsy specimens of human hearts and 200 contrast enhanced cardiac computed tomography studies were analyzed. The left atrial appendage neck was defined as a truncated cone-shaped canal, with four surfaces, which limited proximally by the left atrial ostium and distally by the beginning of the left atrial appendage lobe. The neck was assessed for the presence of ectopic trabeculations and other malformations, which were classified into two types. The relationship between the circumflex branch of the left coronary artery and the neck of the left atrial appendage was examined. The results obtained in this dissertation may significantly contribute to expanding knowledge about the morphology of the left atrial appendage and could serve as a basis for imaging diagnostic methods and invasive procedures performed in this area of the heart ; .
